Solutions

As we begin to understand the impacts of noise on marine animals, we can use our understanding to inform development alternative technologies. Our use of the sea will always include underwater communication, exploration, examination and characterization of the marine environment, all toward extracting ocean goods and services from the sea. All of these activities make noise. In many cases quieter alternatives exist.

Noise mitigation objectives include employing quieter technologies and tailoring our noises so that they are more benign to the environment, while allowing us to accomplish our ocean tasks. The intermediate term strategy of Ocean Conservation Research is to promote the development and integration of alternative technologies.
